Trust

Definitions A belief of the expected actions from another party

Premise Each party acts for the benefit of the other

Components of Trust

  • Trustworthiness: the measure of deserving/receiving trust
  • Trustwillingness: the measure of giving trust

Calibrated Trust: the alignment of one party's trustwillingness of another party's trustworthiness and vice versa

Assurance

Definition Confidence in something
Context Within the pursuit of truth
Premise Means of evaluating trustworthiness and informing trust-willingness

Components of Assurance

  • Assurance Case: Structured set of arguments with a corresponding body of evidence that demonstrates satisfaction of claims
  • Assurance Arguments: Set of claims and reasoning for or against a specific position within an assurance case, supported by evidence
  • Assurance Evidence: Facts, data, statistics, etc. in support for or against a given claim; can be qualitative or quantitative; the foundation of an arguments' credibility is the evidence and the underlying source
